Chautauqua 2010



The chautauqua will feature characters from the 1930s including Will Rogers, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Huey Long, Aimee Semple McPhearson and Zora Neale  Hurston.           There will be programs under the tent, workshops, a special Dust Bowl Exhibit and a five day camp for youth.

An exhibit to honor all the graduates or teachers who have



  1. Made contributions to mankind

  2. Made great sacrifices in their lives

  3. Performed extreme acts of heroism

  4. Achieved great accomplishment

  5. Attained high honors

  6. Reached notoriety


The nominees may be teachers or alumni of CHS and may be given posthumously. The Prairie Museum of Art and History is requesting nominations, information and copies of photographs of these eagles until the end of March 2010.  Nominees will be featured in the exhibit High Flying Eagles:  CHS Alumni Wall of Honor and be honored at a reception on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prairie Museum of Art and History during the CHS reunion.

The Prairie Museum


The Prairie Museum of Art and History provides the experience of early
prairie life in a sod house, a one-room school, a country church and a 1930s farmstead. On exhibit is the World-Class Kuska Collection of Nellie McVey Kuska. She collected dolls, furniture, clothing, quilts, toys, glass, ceramics, silver, souvenirs, household items, tools, musical instruments, coins, clocks, stamps, guns, minerals, and art.

Cooper Barn


The Cooper Barn, the LARGEST Barn in captivity in Kansas, was voted one of the

8 Wonders of Kansas Architecture!

The Cooper Barn is part of the former Foster Farms.  Learn about farming on the High Plains in the “Prairie Grasses to Golden Grains” exhibit, a comprehensive 7,000 sq.-ft. exhibit of machinery, tools and photographs on agriculture.
