Cooper Barn



Description

The largest barn in Kansas and named an 8th Wonder of Kansas Architecture in 2008, the Cooper Barn measures 66 feet wide by 114 feet long and 48 feet high. The loft is perfect for wedding receptions and ceremonies. The barn includes lights and electricity, a beautiful rustic atmosphere, and great space for dancing. There is also a permanent stage big enough to host an altar, live band, or a disc jockey. If you are interested in booking this wonderful venue, the Prairie Museum of Art & History is pleased to offer free admission to all guests who attend events in the Cooper Barn.

  • Loft can accommodate up to 700 people

  • Features a chair lift for handicap accessibility, a kitchenette for catering needs, and on-site restrooms 

  • Does not feature air conditioning or heating, so it is only available for rent from April 1 through October 31

Rental Information

A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required to safely secure a booking date for all events in the Cooper Barn and will go towards the final balance, which is due one month prior to the event. A $500 refundable cleaning deposit is also required. This amount will not go towards your final balance and will be refunded once the barn is inspected and approved by museum personnel following your event. The following listing is a guideline to help estimate the cost to rent the Cooper Barn or the outdoor grounds of the Prairie Museum of Art & History.

  • The Cooper Barn may not be used by any group for fund-raising purposes

  • Clean-up and set-up is the responsibility of the renter and must be done within the designated booking time unless other arrangements are made; oftentimes, time is available during the week prior to the event and the days following an event for set-up and clean-up, but cannot be guaranteed

  • Smoking, open flames (other than one unity candle) or other sources of fire are not permitted on museum premises

  • Guests of the event can enjoy complimentary museum admission to tour our facilities on the day of the event

  • Necessary damage fees, clean-up labor and/or additional hours needed are billed at $100 per hour after the event

 

3-Day Rates

All on-site preparations, decorating, deliveries from vendors, photography needs, etc. must be done within your chosen time-frame. For a typical weekend wedding, all decorating and rehearsals must be done during normal business hours. Renters who are interested in serving alcohol at their event should contact the Prairie Museum’s event coordinator for approval and additional requirements and policies.

  • Friday (Day 1): Decorate during normal business hours and any needed rehearsals done by 5 p.m.

  • Saturday (Day 2): Choose the wedding package below that suits your event needs. All trash from the event must be cleaned out of the Cooper Barn before departing - to be included in your time.

  • Sunday (Day 3): You will be able to get into the barn to finish cleaning and tearing down during normal business hours - 1 to 5 p.m.

 

7-Hour Event between 3 p.m. - 10 p.m.        Alcohol is Not Permitted: $1,500

7-Hour Event between 3 p.m. - 10 p.m.        Alcohol is Permitted: $2,000

12-Hour Event between 1 p.m. - 1 a.m.         Alcohol is Not Permitted: $2,000

12-Hour Event between 1 p.m. - 1 a.m.         Alcohol is Permitted: $3,000

***$200 deposit is required to book the Cooper Barn. This goes towards your final balance due 1 month before your event.

Non-Wedding Rental Rates - 1 Day rates

All preparations, set up, clean up, photography needs, deliveries from vendors, etc. must be done within your chosen time frame. Day rates are appropriate for family reunions, professional seminars, and any other events that do not require extensive set-up time for decorating. Renters who are interested in serving alcohol at their event should contact the Prairie Museum’s event coordinator for approval and additional requirements and policies.
